Capital Fund is dedicated to supporting community health centers in securing the financing necessary to grow their facilities, enhance access to care, and strengthen the long-term well-being of the communities they serve. We are pleased to celebrate the recent New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) financing that will support the expansion of Esperanza Health Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Capital Fund provided an $8 million NMTC allocation to help finance expansion projects at Esperanza’s Fifth Street and Kensington locations. The investment will significantly enhance the health center’s ability to serve patients by doubling the number of exam rooms at the Fifth Street site and adding elevator access, making second-floor services and programs fully accessible to individuals with limited mobility. At the Kensington location, the project will expand primary care services and add a full-service pharmacy, increasing access to comprehensive, convenient care for the surrounding community.
In addition to expanding clinical capacity, a portion of the NMTC financing will support Esperanza’s nurse practitioner residency program, which will train two full-time nurse practitioners each year. This investment will help strengthen the community-based healthcare workforce while ensuring patients have continued access to high-quality primary care providers for years to come.
Founded in 1989, Esperanza Health Center is a Federally Qualified Health Center and an Accredited Patient-Centered Medical Home serving North Philadelphia through three clinic locations. In 2025, Esperanza provided affordable, high-quality healthcare to more than 15,000 patients across over 73,400 visits with a team of 219 full-time employees. The organization offers comprehensive services including primary care, pediatrics, dental care, prenatal care, and integrated behavioral health. Beyond clinical services, Esperanza provides community wellness programs such as exercise classes, cooking classes, and senior programming, along with wraparound services including substance use treatment, medication-assisted treatment, and health education.
